Polycarbonate is a plastic material. The main advantages of this plastic are that it is extremely strong, difficult to deform and hardly flammable. It was discovered in 1953 by German researchers working for Bayer AG. Finally, the added value of HELIO greenhouses is its autonomous side, thanks to its system of thermostatic actuators. When the temperature exceeds 17 degrees in the greenhouse, the oils in the cylinders expand and open part of the roof, which allows the evacuation of hot air. This opening is possible thanks to the flexibility of the polycarbonate and its solidity, which will allow it to bend without breaking.
Using polycarbonate instead of glass makes it possible to divide the mass of the glazing by four, and its contribution to the structure makes it possible to use thinner sections of wood.
