Polycarbonate is a plastic material. The main advantages of this plastic are that it is extremely strong, difficult to deform and hardly flammable. It was discovered in 1953 by German researchers working for Bayer AG. The material is often used for objects requiring resistance to shocks and scratches, such as the shields and helmets of the Republican Security Companies (CRS) during demonstrations.
HELIO | Serre en Bois offers garden greenhouses, in wood and polycarbonate with a simple and refined design. Using polycarbonate glazing highlights the values of HELIO: solidity and transparency.
No more fear of bad weather, such as wind, hail or snow. HELIO greenhouses provide wind resistance, and the polycarbonate manages the entire structure of the greenhouse. With its 2mm thickness, the load supported by a polycarbonate plate in the event of snow can reach up to 130 kg/m2. Finally, polycarbonate offers excellent protection against hail, with impact resistance 200 times greater than that of glass.
Polycarbonate is used for the manufacture of aircraft canopies. Due to its lightness, it will divide by four the mass of glazing in a greenhouse in comparison with the use of 4mm glass, which in particular makes it possible to move a HELIO greenhouse in a single block.
Polycarbonate has different characteristics such as its extraordinary transparency, thus reinventing the garden greenhouse to offer a light and airy version. Polycarbonate that yellows, it’s over! In order to ensure long-term transparency, HELIO opts for polycarbonate sheets with anti-UV treatment and guaranteed for 10 years. This transparency will allow you to erase the boundaries between interior and exterior while exploiting the light, sheltering the young shoots.
By favoring polycarbonate, you choose to simplify your life, thanks to its easy cleaning. A jet of water and cleaning with a soft cloth / neutral soap will clean your greenhouse from the outside, while inside, a simple damp cloth to pass from top to bottom and from right to left, will leave your greenhouse wonderful clarity.
Finally, the added value of HELIO greenhouses is its autonomous side, thanks to its system of thermostatic actuators. When the temperature exceeds 17 degrees in the greenhouse, the oils in the cylinders expand and open part of the roof, which allows the evacuation of hot air. This opening is possible thanks to the flexibility of the polycarbonate and its solidity, which will allow it to bend without breaking.
Using polycarbonate instead of glass makes it possible to divide the mass of the glazing by four, and its contribution to the structure makes it possible to use thinner sections of wood. This then limits the environmental impact of the greenhouse both in terms of the use of materials and its manufacture and transport. Finally, polycarbonate is easily recycled, which makes HELIO greenhouses robust, practical, stylish and ecological.
